XPS Cases the Same?

For the different XPS Generations, are there any differences between the cases / power supplies?  They appear to be the same except for the color/styling.  (I'm trying to figure out whether or not I can put a Gen 5 mboard in a Gen 3 case.)

Yes you can go ahead and put the motherboard in gen 5 in gen 3 and use it.For more details go through the following links.

fishchoke,

The Gen 5 motherboard has a 8 pin 12V power connector slot. The XPS Gen 3 had a 4 pin 12V power connector slot. I don't know if your power supply has the 8 pin adapter for the Gen 5 motherboard. You will have to look at all of the leads coming from the power supply. Plus, the Gen 5 motherboard doesn't have the IEEE 1394 connector for the IEEE 1394 port on the front of the PC.

Thanks for the info.

My power supply has the 4 pin "P2" connector supplying +12 VA DC (yellow).   The Gen 5 board has the 8 pin "P2" socket, which needs +12 VA DC (yellow) and +12 VB DC (white).  So it looks like I can't hook up a gen 5 board directly?

On my power supply there is also another "P5" 6 pin connector that supplies +12 VB DC (white).  Perhaps I could split those (white) wires to supply +12 VB DC to the "P2" socket as well as the "P5" socket ??

What is the difference between +12 VA DC and +12 VB DC?

I am not an electrician so hopefully someone else can chime in, but, VB is yellow and VA is white on our power supplies.
