XPS Gen 5 - Cpu compatibility explained??
Hello all. Well I have been poking around and have not found any solid info on what my comp can be upgraded to. Have seen that my comp seems to be compatible with Core 2 Duo. I was wondering if maybe even compatible with the Core 2 Quad, being that they have a 755 socket.
Tried looking up my service tag to see the Bios A04 info and what the heck it added to the compatibility but was not able to find any usable information. So i'm here asking my question now after a failed repeated search.
I have a Xps Gen 5
Motherboard model: 0GC068
Current Cpu is: Pentium D 830 3.0ghz
Thank you

The XPS G5 does not support Core 2 Duo.
Pentium 4 single core, or Pentium D processors only.

The two cpu's I had in mind were the Core 2 Duo E7600 or the Core 2 Quad Q9300

Does no one seriously know what my computer is compatible with - with the current chipset????
This is thee number one reason why it's retarded to buy a pre manufactured computer.

Thats pretty lame. :\
So then the Pen D 960 would be the obvious choice then. Currently I'm using a Pen D 830. Would it do much of a difference in gaming to upgrade to the 960? Or should I just wait till I have the money to build my next gaming rid with a AMD FX-8350 FX-Series 8-Core Black Edition?
Thank you btw with the compatibility of my rig

Yep, I agree, hence the reason for me to build my own desktops again, based mostly on Gigabyte motherboards.
Personally, I would not spent the money to upgrade a 9+ year desktop, from a D 830, to a D 960. :emotion-5:
