Hello Folks

On the standard XPS 700 what is the fastest processor that it will handle?

Thanks in advance

Any current processor that does not end with the last two digits as 50. The QX6800 is the top dog Intel Extreme that will work in your unit. Get ready to open your wallet extra wide though.

Example:
Yes= Q6600, QX6800
No=  E6550, QX9650

Processor type Intel® Pentium® 4 Intel® Pentium® D Intel® Core™ 2 Duo probably the core 2 duo proably the core 2 duo 6850 if dell provided a bios for it....you can probablly be on the the safe side and get a e6600,,,intel had sold a ton, and they are very quick. pretty sure the quads will not work on a 700,,, you have a nvidia 590sli-mcp chipset...go to the intel site , find your chipset and read..or find the cpu and read...remember,,dell had to provide a bios for the cpu you choose. but the 590 sli-mcp in the dell manual says core 2 duo.

Thanks Guys

Looking at the processor chart at nVidia for chipset 590 sliI noticed that fsb comes in different speeds.  What determines the speed of the fsb?

On the 700 thw supported FSB is 1066. The upgrade to the 720 that some of us went through allowed support for the 1333 FSB cpus like E6850. As recommended above a Q6600 run and the original Core 2 Duos run with a 1066 FSB. The 1.4.1 bios added support for new processors and as I recall I think this change included all of the 1066FSB processors including the quads. I am not sure if this allowed for the 1333 FSB cpus.
