1100- errors when returning from standby- HELP!

Question

I made the mistake of installing Win XP SP2... immediately my laptop wouldn't return from standby- I would get a blue system error screen and the pc would reboot. Shows up like this in the Event Manager: Error code 000000ea, parameter1 febc7700, parameter2 811d7e20, parameter3 81240bc0, parameter4 00000001. I uninstalled SP2 and it continued to happen, so I switched from standby to 'do nothing' when I close the lid and activated the screensaver. Now I am getting a different error and then the display looks somewhat like it would if I were in safe mode with limited colors and a small display screen and I have to reboot to get it back to normal. Below is the current error showing up in the Event Manager... Can someone PLEASE help me figure out how to get my pc back to normal? I downloaded the most recent driver I could find and tried installing that, but it doesn't seem to be making a difference- am I missing something? The driver ialmrnt5 for the display device \Device\Video0 got stuck in an infinite loop. This usually indicates a problem with the device itself or with the device driver programming the hardware incorrectly. Please check with your hardware device vendor for any driver updates.

I would say that til you find the nature of the problem you should do a system restore as soon as possible, all program,accessories,system tools,system restore, sorry I'm not much help, you also can try to boot from the install cd and choose the repair option, I always put the system on another drive than my personal data so that I can reinstall the all OS without loosing my stuff, I also keep my programs .exe so that I can reinstall theme quick too, good luck

I should probably have added before- system restore is turned off from a virus problem I had quite some time ago. I was advised it was easier (and better) just to leave it off. I know I have the option of backing up all my info and reformatting, I was just trying to save the time & effort of doing that if there was an easier fix. I have never tried the repair option, I will look into that- thanks
