5150 - multiple inputs

Hey all.

I'm trying to do a podcast on the 5150 and I'm finding that I can't tell the Sigma Tel driver to accept input from both the Stereo Mix (which I'm assuming is the inbound) and the mic.

Is there something I'm missing?

When I look at where my input comes from, it only lets me select one input and not both.

Any ideas or should I be looking for an external card? (is there such a thing)

Thanks

Go for an external card like the Creative USB Soundblaster Live! External 24 bit card.  More info at

Works like a charm on my 5150.

The 5150 only has one input for audio, its the mic. the other is for headphones.

Just to clarify, does this mean that the "Stereo Mix" function is useless? I tried using the mic input for stereo today and it seems like it will only do Mono no matter what...

The 5150 has a mono mic input.

:(

Thanks for answering...

Looks like I will be going with an audigy as well. I was working with some Latitudes at work and noticed the same config of just a mic in and headphone jack. Not sure why they didn't hook up a line in jack, from what I have read the on board chip supports it.

Regards

When you select Stereo Mix, that means it will record all unmuted sources.  This inlcudes mic, line in, cd in, and any sound coming out from line out.

So, when you select Stereo Mix, you are automatically including the mic for recording as well as other sources.  You do not need to check Mic separately.

You do not need an audigy sound card, unless you want to hook up multiple line ins, playback software synthesizer, need sound fonts MIDI for music production.

Yes it's strange Dell doesn't offer Line in jack, even the high end XPS notebook doesn't have it.

the xps isn't really an audio computer. it's a gaming system so i can see why there is no line in. But I think that computers like the 5150 should have one. I think that the lattitude series has a line in on (all?) of their models, not sure though.

My home windows box is a insp. 5150. At work I've got latitude C610, X200, X300 and I have not seen a stereo line in on any of them ... Thanks for the responses. I hope Dell reads these forums, it's not all that much space for one more hole in the side of the laptop.

I'll probably just use my Linux box for the audio instead. Audacity for the win.

Cheers,
