5150 not recognizing external HD.

I have an Inspiron 5150 with WinXP Home. The HD has been making some odd sounds recently, so I am attempting to use Norton Ghost and image the disk to an external HD (SimpleTech 120 GB USB drive). The documentation for the drive states that under WinXP no drivers are needed. However, Windows tried to locate the drivers, and now the drive is not recognized at all.

OK. Got it to recognize the drive, but imaging failed. What wound up happening was: rebooted into DOS, Ghost could not locate the external drive. Did so, but said drive is not an Iomega, which is what it assigned a letter to. Hung in DOS ~15 mins ago after recognizing my mouse drivers; Ghost screen did not come up. Just rebooted into Windows to be able to get things done...

Anyone else had issues with Ghost 2003 and 51xx laptops?

Hi,

The easy way to do this is do it in a desktop. You can get an adapter to convert the 2.5 inch connecter to a 3,5 inch. They are IDE and this will avoid other issues.
