5160 video problems

Have new 5160. had monitor problems , contacted dell, after doing checks sent unit to dell depot for repair. only took 2 days to send off, repair and return with new lcd monitor. ( my problem ) first boot up everything seemed fine. Upon checking desplay/ settings they showed one monitor numbered no2 whith resolution at 1p x 1p. hit identify button and lcd screen had no responce. (notice) current settings display drive can not be used, was written for previous version of windows, not able to use with this version. sys started with default vga driver. there is no other moniter on this sys so the lcd is the only one.

By useing fun f8 i then change monitors and the correct setings displayed in display/ settings window showing 2 monitors with no1 moniter being identified with lcd. by rebooting and using f12 i then tried to run test on lcd monitor with only plank screen during test try. hitihg esc bruoght my screen back. test for svga vga all showed they passedwith all test showing on lcd. when shuting down with all setings correct it boots up  without proper setings. my grafic card is 32mb xgi xp5

this is the first laptop i have owned, though i have had and have more that 6 dell desktops with no problems, allmost lol. In sys/monitor display i have 3 default monitors listed is this normal. tried earlier post but did not see it, if duplacting please accept my appoligy.  Thankyou all for your time

I have the very same machine and video card. The exact same symptoms are occuring. I suspect it is a video card issue/driver or driver conflict with other software. Please post if you have any resolution with dell. I will do the same

Having the same problem too. Is somewhat random. Sometimes if you just reinstall the driver it is fine. Other times you have to back up and put in a old driver then put back in new one.

I had been starting to think the graphics card was overheating, but after running
some cpu temp reporting programs I don't think that's the case. I spent over 2 hours on dell with this problem. Would like to hear if even more people are having it.
