6000 battery replace question

hi. my battery is no longer being recognized by my inspiron 6000. The machine is able to run on the battery alone, but Control Panel's Power Meter says, and Bios says, no battery is attached. i know, its weird. besides the proof of actually working with just the battery, the only evidence that the machine is using the battery alone is the little LED power light just under the right corner of the LCD. When the AC Power is on, the little LED is green. when i just use the battery, it switches to orange. Other than that, when i switch to battery, even the little icon in the tray stays with the cable icon, and does not switch to the picture of the battery. so, under my extended 'complete' care warranty, dell only replaced the motherboard in case that was the problem. it was not the problem. so, it looks like im stuck buying a replacement battery. here is the new issue: the price for the 9 cell smart lithium ion additional battery for inspiron 6000 is $147.95. the price for the the 6 cell lithium ion primary battery for inspiron 6000 is $149.95. What the? Shouldnt the 9 cell battery be more expensive? Or, does it have something to do with it not being a 'primary battery' as seen in the above description for the 6 cell? Meaning, does it have a shorter lifespan than the 6 cell, even though the pc can run on it longer than the 6 cell? or, is this just a great deal that i am getting nervous over for nothing?!

Supply and demand. Everybody orders the small battery with their system, leaving them with a shipping container full of the big ones. The 700m extended battery is cheaper than the standard one, too.

Personally, I'd look for one on ebay or www.pacificbattery.com before buying from dell.

maybe, its an discount, what i know for sure is that the 9-cell battery has an longer power life for your notebook.

have you already tried to reinstall your windows? this could be the problem.

and do you have the newest (A09) bios version?

thanks everyone.
i did reinstall xp recently, but i cant imagine that is the problem bc when i take out the battery and press the button, it doesnt light up green. so its almost surely the battery itself. as for the other website, now i know for next time. i really just had no idea that batteries could go so fast, if at all. now i know, and knowing is half the battle. ahhh. thanks again.
