6430u - Bootable SD-Card

Hi Forum !

II would like to install a small Linux Livesystem (openSuese) on the SD-Card of my 6430u. This would give me a second oppourtunity, in case of problems with W7, running on the HD.

But this approach needs a bootable SD-Card, something I could not get to work on my laptop. I tried the various settings in the bios (btw is there any documentation ?), but without success. When pressing F12 on startup, no SD-Card is shown as bootable device, no chance.

I alraedy searched the forum for this topic, finding that some Dell's support bootable SD-Cards, other's not. Although I fear, that my 6430u belongs to the second group, I would be thankful for an answer. Maybee there is a switch somewhere, I did not find or a workaround, I did not think of.

So many Thanks in advance for all suggestions.

Hi Richwa,

Unfortunately, this system does not support SD boot. System's cannot boot using SD cards. Systems can only boot from a USB drive or DVD's.

Thanks for your fast and very clear answer, which destroys my dreams completely :emotion-6:

OK, so we have to live with that shortcomming, anyway.

Hi Richwa,

I understand that booting through USB drive or DVD's would not serve your purpose. Unfortunately, there isn't anything that I can do from from my end. This is working as designed.

Let me know if you have any further questions.
