Hi,

Thank you for writing to the Dell Community Forum.

I am sorry to know that you are facing issues with the fan. May I know the current version of BIOS on this system? There has been a new A15 BIOS update released on 27th May 2015. If it is not updated to the latest BIOS, please update it from the following link:

Please let me know if you are still facing the same issue after updating the BIOS.

Hi,

>Since you are experiencing fan overspinning issue,I  would suggest you to check the fan RPM from F12 diags.

>once you see the Dell splash screen- hit the F12 key until you enter EPSA.

>once you get into epsa, you will be able to see the CPU temp and CPU fan RPM

>make a note of it.

> on an average it coul be around 60-65 degree.

> and then check for CPU fan RPM. It should be around 1500 to 2000 RPM ideally.

>since you are experiencing a overspinning and noise issue-it wouldbe around 3000 to 4000RPM.

>if the CPU is overheating and around 80 degree then the fan is doing the job to reduce heat- from here we can eliminate fan.

>usually a BiOS update can resolve a machine overheating or fan overspinning issue.

> try latest bios version A15 from dell support website- which can fix the issue.

> also make sure that there is not blockage to the air vents.

Arub

Update bios to A15, this would ideally fix the issue

June 1st, 2015 17:00

I updated the bios to A15 from A14, and no luck. It was quiet for about 5 minutes after turning it on (normal) and then the fan turns on and just seems to be stuck at 5-6k rpm  (also normal). I have 3 Chrome tabs open and task manager says I am using between 1-15% of cpu power. The air coming out of the vent is mildly warm. So I don't see any obvious reason for it to be using the fan like this.
