I am trying to use a device on my Inspiron 7520 laptop that needs to be compatible with this sound card. Is my laptop compatible and if not what can I do?
Without knowing more about the device I doubt that anyone could say. The name that you put on this thread is "AC97" so I assume that has something to do with your question. Here is some general information about that.
Sound cards are cards that fit into a slot inside the case of a desktop computer. Laptop computers have "integrated" audio that is built onto the motherboard instead of cards. Intel sets the standards for the integrated audio hardware and all motherboard manufacturers follow those standards. In 1997 the standard for integrated audio was named "AC97". Around 2005 or so the standard was changed to "HD" (high definition). Since then all laptops have had HD integrated audio.
If your laptop is an Inspiron 15R SE 7520 model then it has HD audio, not AC97, and its audio hardware was manufactured by the Conexant company. The device you are asking about might or might not be compatible with it. If you know for sure that your device is only compatible with AC97 then it would not be compatible.
If you need more help please reply back with some details about the device, for example its name and/or model number.
I looked up the device, and it looks to me that the instructions were written years ago, before HD audio, and the company did not update the instructions after HD audio came out. I believe all it means is that your laptop has to have an audio system, which it does.
First time I've used the forum - please excuse the errors.
I want to use an Ion Video 2 Go digital video conversion system to transfer VHS tapes from a VCR to my laptop where I can edit them and burn DVDs. Two specs were listed by Ion for this USb2 device to work. A graphics card that supports DirectX and a AC97 - compatible sound card. The graphics card I solved because my laptop has DirectX version 11 so I presume that is OK but I cannot find out anything about the compatibility with the AC97 sound card because my understanding is that laptops don't have sound cards.
