ACPI BIOS

I am getting this message when I try to boot my system:  (The ACPI BIOS in this system is not fully compliant with the ACPI specifications.  Please read the README.TXT for possible workarounds.  You can also contact your system’s manufacturer for an updated BIOS or visit hardware update to see if a new BIOS is available. )   I'm running W2000, and have been ever since I purchased this machine two years ago.  It's Service Tag is 6YAPU.  Why would I suddenly get this message?  How do I fix it?

Have you reinstalled Windows/had a system crash/done a repair/installed or uninstalled any MS patches recently?

I reinstalled W2000 about a month ago due to a crash caused by System Mechanic.  After reinstalling, I installed all the updates provided by Microsoft on Windows Updates.  I did not reinstall System Mechanic.

What BIOS version are you using now on your CPxJ? it may be that it is an older version from W98 days which used APM and not ACPI. It also could be the BIOS has gotten corrupted somehow . I would flash with the CPSJ-A14 or CPSJ-A16 BIOS version.

Interesting, I had this problem on a C600 in the early days of W2K. Now so long ago that I don't remember all of the details, but it was either fixed by a BIOS upgrade or an MS patch and I now can't remember which. If you're sure you've applied all the patches (does this include service packs?) then I'd try the BIOS upgrade route - be sure to use the floppy disk method (not the hdd in windows method as it seems to be less reliable). If you've more than one battery, put the worst battery (that works) in the machine to do the BIOS update since it seems to have a habit of accelerating the decline in battery life.

Leduke30 also makes an interesting point - are you sure the machine was running in ACPI mode before you had to do the rebuild?
