ACPI uniprocessor kernel

Hi,

I have a new dell D600 here on which I've allready to install 3 different operating systems. First is windows 2000, other is Windows XP and even Windows 2003 server.

For some reason it refuses to install the ACPI Uniprocessor kernel but reverts back to the old ACPI (written completely) kernel which is horrible. It shares IRQ's, doesn't enable APIC mode (23 IRQ's), bad power management, etc.

I've tried everything, even upgrading to the latest bios. No help. I've resetted the bios to defaults, didn't fix it either. If in windows 2000 I force the kernel, or during installation, it hangs during boot.

I've seen this same behaviour on desktop machines, but then it was a bios option to enable to disable APIC mode. Alas, such an option does not exsist in the dell bios?

Please, if anyone can give me any help/comment on this, please do so.

Quindor
