Adding RAM
Hi,
I initially bought my Inspiron 8500 with 1 DIMM of 256Mb. Now, I just bought another DIMM of 512Mb and successfully added this new component in the empty slot.
The thing is that after I did that, I re-ran a benchmark on my memory to see what the results would be and to my gigantic surprise, my memory is now slower than before! The benchmark calculates Integer assignment, Real assignment, Integer split and real split. In every single category, the system is now slower than with the single 256Mb DIMM.
What could be the reasons for this since both DIMMs are from the same company and operate at 266Mhz?
Should I have put the larger DIMM (512Mb) in the first slot? Would that make a difference?
Could the benchmark software be wrong in some way (calculating assignments split between both DIMMs)? Maybe the bus takes a long time to reach the second DIMM?
Thanks,
Skip.

I'd say a good 10%. For example, in the Integer Assignment test, I had 11956 and now only 10658. Plus, I haven't noticed any real speed improvement.
Thanks,

try running the bench with only the 512 stick - it may be bad - might try diags also
