Additional Storage.

I'm going to be placing a new order with dell on dell.com and before I do that, I would like some help deciding how much additional storage to get for my Inspiron 6000d notebook. Right now, I'm looking at getting the 64MB USB Memory Key and External USB Floppy Drive. Do I need the 128 MB drive or is the 64MB one good?

Thanks.

Unless you want the bootability of the key, you'd be better off buying a memory key elsewhere - you can get a 1G key after rebate for about $70 these days.

There's no such thing as a 64 or 128M floppy drive. You're talking about USB memory keys.

Given that you will probably want to use one to back up quite a bit of data, I'd go for a 512M or 1024M memory key. They're no longer much more expensive than the 64 or 128M versions.

So is the 64 MB floppy drive good enough or should I upgrade to the 128 MB floppy drive?

Yes there is. These are the floppy drive options for the 6000d notebook:

  External USB Floppy Drive

64MB Dell™ USB Memory Key

128MB Dell™ USB Memory Key

 256MB Dell™ USB Memory Key

64MB USB Memory Key and External USB Floppy Drive

128MB USB Memory Key and External USB Floppy Drive

128MB USB Memory Key and External USB Floppy Drive

No, you're misunderstanding.  You can buy the memory key AND a USB floppy drive in the bottom three options. TWO different things.

As you were told, Dell's memory key prices are not competitive.

Is the 64 MB USB Memory Key and External USB Floppy Drive good enough or do I need to upgrade to the 128 MB USB Memory Key and External USB Floppy Drive? Between these two, which would you recommend Rick?

Also, should I get the 60 GB Hard Drive or the 80 GB Hard Drive?

Why isn't the 60GB 7200rpm Hard Drive an option for the Inspiron 6000d notebook anymore:smileymad:

Buying a USB memory key from Dell, as was already stated, is a waste of money.

I use a 40gb hard drive, 5400 rpm, and can't comprehend why you would need bigger.  Speed is what's important.
