Airplane mode switch not functioning - Latitude E5530

I have reinstalled OS on this machine - running Windows Server 2012 R2 (Server Version based on Windows 8.1). Windows Update is fully up to date for all Microsoft patches.

After installing Wireless LAN Service as a Server Feature, the Braodcom 802.11n Network Adapter is working fine.  Excellent wi-fi connections.  Under Device Manager, driver for the wi-fi card is up to date.

However, hardware Airplane Mode wifi switch (on front edge of laptop body) is non-functional. WiFi is always on regardless of switch setting.

From Dell support website, I downloaded and installed Windows 8.1 driver Network_Driver_90M6T_WN_1.4.1_A00.EXE  listed as being for Airplane Mode switch on this model. After install, in Deice Manager under Human Interface Devices both Airplane Mode Switch and Airplane Mode Switch Collection show up as in working order, with latest drivers installed (Dell v. 1.4.1.0). However, Airplane Mode switch still does nothing.

Checked in BIOS, and there are settings related to WiFi > Airplane Mode Switch, but (i) settings all show as activated and (ii) settings are greyed out saying that in Windows 8 these options are controlled by the switch driver.

What am I missing here to get the hardware Airplane Mode switch working?
