Allowable Voltage Input Range

I have an Inspiron 8500.  Does anyone know what the allowable input voltage range is?  The nominal is 20V.  Ideally, I would like to power the system with a regulated 24V supply.  Thoughts?  Appreciate you help.

You're asking for big trouble with that much overvoltage.

Trouble?  What is the spec?  Lots of electronic equipment has ratings from 20 to 30V?

Considering the relative complexity of the electronics inside the notebook, and the fact that the power supply communicates with the mainboard and battery through logic circuitry, you are asking for trouble by pushing the voltage from 20 to 24V.

You can even run into trouble with newer notebooks by using a non-OEM power supply.

At one point, most of the power circuitry was on a relatively inexpensive power board - that is no longer the case. A slip can fry a $500 mainboard, since just about everything inside of a modern notebook is part of a single circuit board.
