and here...I have a Latitude 3540 with AMD graphics and now I have installed Win 8.1 I can no longer sleep or hibernate the system because it crashes with this error every time it restarts. It's infuriating - it really needs sorting out! I have tried everything to fix this - new video and chipset drivers, new BIOS. Dell, please sort this out!!!

Same here, Dell 3537.

When I start computer it gives me this error and restarts, and when laptops go to sleep, I can't wake it up, it resets.

I have the same issue. I've run a diagnostics with the provided My Dell software and it says that the BSOD is caused by igdkmd64.sys. I've googled and found that it may belong to the Intel's graphic driver. After installing the latest Intel driver from their support site the problem seemed to be solved for 2 or 3 restarts, however after that the problem came back.

I can only start the laptop by waiting for the BSOD to finish gathering the information and restart normally. I can not use sleep nor hibernate which is really annoying.

I hope there exist a solution for this problem.

I have an Inspiron 15 3537.

This problem will only appear if you let Windows automatically install driver updates (Windows 8.1). It will not occur if you just keep your original manufacturer package (ends on "3308") and don't let Windows Update to replace it with newer one. However, I think that turning Windows Update off will not prevent Windows from updating drivers. In earlier versions of Windows (7 or 2008 R2) you can install the newest package available, and everything will be OK. So keep it in mind, even though it's not nearly a solution.

Mine has gone from bad to worse. My Win8.1 installation became very unstable in the course of trying to sort this, to the point that not even the BSOD screen would show properly - the text was smeared all over the screen! I have had to scrap my Win8.1 installation and go back to Win7, wasting hours and hours of my time. I only bought the machine last November - it's not like I am trying to install Win8.1 on some old machine that can't handle it. This really, really needs addressing as a matter of urgency!

Picard01,

Please, follow the installation of the following drives:

Chipset: http://downloads.dell.com/FOLDER01396329M/8/Chipset_Intel_W8_X03_A00_Setup-PJ3CT_ZPE.exe

Vídeo Intel: http://downloads.dell.com/FOLDER01699811M/17/Video_Intel_W84_A00_Setup-C7NDJ_ZPE.exe

Vídeo AMD: http://www2.ati.com/DriverS/mobile/13-9_mobility_win7_win8_64_dd_ccc_whql.exe

When installing these drivers on a Windows 8.1 system, everything should be fine again.

If you have any trouble, please let me know.

I'm glad it helped you Mikew5163.

About you fan, i would update the BIOS if you haven't done so, but i agree with you, probably just a coincidence. :)

Thanks, I did update the BIOS just last week actually (whilst trying to fix the video issue). My machine has been on all day so chances are this is just a coincidence! Regards, Mike

Hi, Thank you very much for this - I have run through the steps in your post and installed the three packages - the chipset and Intel video drivers were older than the ones I downloaded from the Dell support site, by the way. So I guess this is a recently introduced issue! I can confirm that having done this, the problem goes away. I can now sleep and hibernate my Win 8.1 machine. My only slight concern is that my laptop's fan has been on constantly since I rebooted, but hopefully that's a coincidence! Regards, Michael

@Berec93,

There is no problem about disabling windows update. What you can do to keep your system updated, is to check the Windows Update screen and go to Optional Updates.

If you see any driver related update, please, right click on it and set to hide it.

After that, you can set it back to work automatically.

DELL-MARLON J,

I had the same problem with my Dell 3537 (i5 4200U, and AMD Radeon 8670M 2GB), so I've done the steps you sad below. Everything was OK for a day, but after that it downloaded some updates automatically (thats my bad choice that I turned on the automatic updates), and the full system crashed ( NO PICTURE at all). I succeded somehow to live it up with system restore, and repeated the steps with these drivers, but now I turned off the updates. It's ok for now. Does it safe to leave automatic updates OFF? Is there a solution to turn off the updates for these drivers separately?

Regards

What are the plans for a permanent fix on these drivers?

It's good that there is a workaround, but bad that the workaround is to remain on an old driver and never update again for fear of breaking things......

Plus one from me. It's good that we can make this work, but please don't assume that it's fixed, Dell people! We need a permanent solution to this.
