Audigy PCMCIA

Anyone tried the new PCMCIA Sound Blaster® Audigy® 2 ZS Notebook ?
Have a Inspiron and the onboard sound is garbage and thats been nice so am considering this new offering from Creative Labs. Has anyone heard any feedback on these cards ?

I purchased a Creative Labs Audigy 2 ZS Notebook for my I8600 and the sound quality is AMAZING. I paid $103 at comp-u-plus and it was worth every penny. The only thing I don't like is that the sound from it will not play through the internal speakers.

haha, granted it would probably be terrible, but what happens if you input from the card to the mic? ;p

Would it be possible to disable the Augigy soundt card in the device manager and use the built in sound and internal speakers when you are away from your speakers ?

I guess the other option would be to have a very small pair of headphones that you carry around with the laptop.

Anyway looking forward to getting the Audigy after xmas :-)

yes, you can choose which sound card to use -- (or you could just take it out) ;p

could you post a pic (if you can take one) of the card in the laptop?

i want to know if a lot of it is actually coming out of the slot

also, wouldn't it be more convinient to get a USB2 audigy, and use it only at home?

depends, if you move the notebook between several locations I could definitely see the pcmcia card being easier.  i agree it's probably wasted when the computer is mobile, but if you're moving between fixed spots it'd be very nice indeed

You can indeed use the Audigy ZSN outputing to the internal speakers.

Thanks to this tip from NetHead in Creative forums:

"Hook it up from the Audigy out to laptop in, then run regedit to get the mic input visible in Windows volume control. Search for DisableMicFromPlayback and set it to 0. May need a reboot before it appears in the volume app, not sure. "

I tried it and it works. Not perfect because it is mono, but still much better than the Sigmatel craap, and no more compatability issues!!! Use headphones or external speakers when possible, but when not available, you can use the internal now.

For those with sound problems in there Dell, this card will fix you up.

New drivers just released now allow you to use the card with full use of your laptops internal speakers. Now I use the 2.1 speakers in my i9200 instead of the mono MIC trick mentioned above. All the bad stuff in the SigmaTel no longer needs to be messed with.

So do you still have to use the mic input and which coloured plug would you use ( yellow/green/black) to plug into the audio

Actually I have some speakers I leave at work and at home use headphones but just curious to see how this sounds.

btw: will not buy another Dell unless they do something with the sound

I just got the audigy zs notebook too. If you want to try it on your internal speakers, just run the software updater on their webpage. I got a new version of the Feature Mode Selection Utility. There should now be a checkbox called "Enable Audio Playblack through Notebook Speakers". That should do it for you.

BUT, I have a new problem. Sound delay. On my videos, the people's mouths would move and then a second later the audio for their voice comes out. Not a problem for listening to music, but a BIG problem for watching my movies. Anywone with a ZS Notebook have any solutions?

I have an 8600 1.6Ghz w/ Radeon 9600, I would think it well exceeds the requirements for this card.

Nevermind about the delay problem... Somehow, it got magically fixed. I changed from Advance Mode to Standard Mode, and I haven't had the delay problem ever since, in both modes as well. I'm a pretty happy customer now. :)

The new drivers are great. Just use the auto update on the site, with the new drivers letting people use the built in speaker this will be a hot selling product.

I used the auto update and got the new drivers. When I open the Feature Mode Selection Utility. I set the audio for the interneal speakers and it tests ok but when I play MP3's I can only get sound through my external speakers. When I check the Mixer and the Speaker setup it doesn't show any selection for internal speakers. Is there something simple that I have missed ?

Keep out updating till you have the "Feature mode selection utility" the open up the program and check the use internal notebook speakers.

I have found that a bug with the utility is a slight delay from 1-2 second but Creative is already working to fix it.
