Audio driver installation error
Hello,
I'm using Dell Studio 1555
my internal microphone doesn't work, so i read countless numbers of articles on the internet how to fix it. After 2 days of trying i gave up. I settled with the fact that my microphone wont work, so i desided to re-install my windows. When i did, i started installing my drivers from dell website. When i reached the sound driver i got this error:
"The Sigmatel Driver must be removed"
I do not have such driver, i just formatted my disk and installed new windows. How i can remove something that doesn't exist? I checked the Uninstall programs thingy - nothing, I went in device manager and uninstalled all default windows audio drivers still nothing.
Thank you

Hey its me again,
I managed to install them.
I restart my laptop after that Windows installed its default drivers again. Then i went in Device manager, selected the default driver and clicked "Update". Then clicked on manual update, where i point from where to install the driver. Selected the driver folder and it worked.

Hi,
From the above picture it seems the audio driver is already installed as we can see the volume icon on the bottom right side. In windows 7 these drivers are automatically picked up.You can also install the sound driver directly from the link below.

I would recommend you to check the microphone settings by using the following steps.
Click Start> Control Panel>Sounds>Click on the Recording tab on the top>make sure the Microphone has a green check beside it.
If the green check is not there click on the microphone icon and click on Set Default> you can also click on the Properties tab and check the following settings.
a. Click on general tab on top, click on properties under Controller Information and check if the device is working properly. Also, make sure under device usage: the device is enabled.
b. Click on Levels tab on the top to check if the sound level is properly set.The boost should be minimized and volume should be maximised.
Also try to check the microphone you are using on some other laptop to make sure it is working well.
Please reply if you have any further questions

Hello,
Thanks for the advice, my sound drivers are ok now :)
Sadly i tried all this with my mic. I have been reading around forums for the last 2 days and tried almost everything. The problem is with my internal mic(the build in one), so i cant really test it on other laptop. The rest of the suggestions you gave me i tried many times with no success.
Here are some screens maybe you can see something wrong that i miss:
Note: I tried the same setting with the other device "Microphone/Line-in...setting it default..etc...etc)

Hi,
Thanks for the reply. The pictures were very helpful. It may be an issue with the internal microphone on your laptop.
The only thing that should be changed in these settings is the Microphone boost in Levels tab. The Microphone boost should be minimum not maximum. Please change this setting and check once again.
If it still doesn’t work, I would recommend you run a diagnostic test on the microphone using the Dell Support Center. If it is not installed on your system you can download it from the following link. http://dell.to/O6zy4T
Please run Diagnostics on the microphone by following the steps below: Click Start>All Programs> Dell> Dell Support Center and Launch PC Checkup. Click the PC Checkup button and then click Run Custom Scan under Audio device choose the option Microphone test.
watch a video on PC checkup from the following link. http://dell.to/RWpmLI
You can also use the Article ID : 388104 on www.support.dell.com or watch a video on PC checkup from the following link. http://dell.to/RWpmLI for more help with the PC checkup
If you are getting any error codes, it means that the microphone hardware is faulty.
I am adding you as a friend; please accept my friend request and send me a personal message with the system Service Tag so that I can check the system warranty details and help you accordingly.
