Audio Problems

I have an Inspiron 1505 laptop, and the sound comes out choppy and distorted ~ cutting in and out.  This happens when I try to listen via Windows Media Player, iTunes and/or any other music-listening program I have.  Any recommendations on how to fix this problem?

If you have Vista then see
Choppy/Skipping Audio under Windows Vista Workarounds

I don't think it is mentioned in the above tips, but updating the firmware for a TS-L462C Cd rom/burner also chops up the audio. This glitch might be resolved by keeping a music (not mp3) cd in the drive. Your computer might not have this drive but I think it was used in at least some E1505's.

Yo,

For folks who have the problem that is discussed in this thread
TSST TS-L462C 24x slim combo Cd rom/burner firmware DE07.zip problem

a temporary solution seems to be to keep a music cd disk in the cd drive drawer. It should be like a commercial music cd, not a cd of mp3 files.

To find out if you have the TS-L462C cd drive that is discussed in the thread, open Audio Properties (right click on the volume icon on the taskbar and click 'adjust audio properties', or go through the Control Panel/Sounds & Audio Devices Properties). Select the Hardware tab. Look for DVD/CDROM in the device column. The name of the drive should be there.

If that doesn't make sense please let me know and I'll get back to you in the a.m.

Thanks Jim, but I don't have Vista ~ and I'm not sure what you mean by keeping a CD (non MP3 or otherwise) in the drive.  I don't have mucj knowledge with regard to techie things, so you're speaking a different language.  Can you explain it in more somple terms?  Thank you.  Yo

My problem started when I updated the firmware for my cdrw/dvd combo drive, TS-L462C.

here is the solution that worked for me if you don't have a floppy drive.
