Battery recognition problem

I have a Dell Laptop 1558 studio which is about 3 years old, I kept getting a message informing me that the battery needed replacement and have done that, there were not problems at first but now the laptop does not recognise the batter and does not charge when plugged in. I have tried all the recommended solutions holding the power button down etc updating my bios but nothing solves the problem, I tried using my old battery and when I first powered up everything worked fine but the next time I powered up I had the same problem with the old battery as I do with the new one. Sometimes however when powering on everything works fine and the battery charges up as normal, but then the next time it is back to this same problem Is there anything else I can try Do I need a new charger cable and power source ac adapter maybe?

Hi Tony Kevy,

Please check if the ac adapter is detected in BIOS follow the steps below.

Shut down the computer and tap F2 during the startup > default BIOS page will be ‘Main’ in that page check the Ac adapter type. Also try with a known good adapter and check if the issue persists.

Also let me know that the battery is a Dell branded battery?

Hi Senthil

I have checked the BIOS and it is detecting an Ac adapter type which matches my AC adapter and I have tried both my Dell Battery and my non Dell battery and both are having the same fault.

However sometimes when the battery level drops below 20% if I unplug the battery and plug it back in it starts to charge. And this also happens with either battery

Hi Tony Kevy,

Please run the Dell PC diagnostics on battery using the link below.

http://dell.to/We70YO

In this link click on hardware >select battery and click on run diagnostics.

Let us know about the progress.

Good news, no errors were found during the diagnostic scan. Please scroll down to review your diagnostic results and suggestions for improving the performance of your system.

But I am still getting this problem? and now when i switch on my laptop none of my usual setting are being loaded in Internet Explorer not sure if this is all related but all is well in Google Chrome but now IE11 does not retain my settings but reverts to its own default settings

Hi Tony Kevy,

Please check if the battery is working fine in another system? Also reset the internet explorer settings using the link below.

Hi Senthil

Have done both suggestions the battery is working fine in my daughters laptop but not mine  and have reset IE. and still it will not retain my settings. Each time I log on I have to reset all my passwords for my Facebook and other social network sites yet in google chrome all passwords are maintained. Its seems obvious to me that there is a problem with IE11 compatability with Google.

thanks for you help

Tony

Hi Tony Kevy,

Since the battery is working fine in another system I suspect the battery connector on the motherboard may be faulty, please consider replacing the motherboard. You can also perform system restore referring to the link below and check if the internet explorer is working fine.

You can find information about system restore on this link

Hi Senthil strange as it may seem since reverting back to Internet Explorer 9 all the problems with the battery and my Google page has disappeared and all is not working ok.

It is obvious to me that IE10 and 11 has serious comparability problems and Microsoft should address the problem urgently rather than ignore complaints of which i have research are many. I am very disappointed with them but at least my laptop is now working

thanks for you help
