Battery Warning Message

I have a Dell Inspiron N5010 with Windows 7

When I am running on battery power, I used to get a warning at 10% in the lower right of the screen telling me to plug in.

I no longer receive this message. Instead, I receive a more serious warning at 7% in the middle of the screen that tells me to plug in.

What happened? Why is my laptop behaving differently? Can I get the 10% warning back?

This may be caused by several things.  Having the BIOS updated or Quickset installed or updated may well explain the change.  Just prior to you noticing the change did you receive any update or upgrade messages?  Was any new software installed just prior to the change?  What version of the BIOS do you have on the system (start the system while tapping F2 will get you in the BIOS to check on the version number, you can also look up system information in Windows)? What version of Quickset has been installed?  Have you recently replaced the battery or AC adapter?

I did not update the bios.  I do not believe quickset is installed.  Before the change, I did some important windows updates I have BIOS Version A08.  I have not replaced the battery or AC adapter.

If you don't have quickset installed you can download from the following link

Other than that it looks like the only change to the system has been the Windows updates. If installing Quickset doesn't make a change, then you may want to look what Windows Updates was installed.  You can do that in control panel.  You may even consider running system restore to before when Windows Updates was installed. For more on system restore check out the following link.
