Battery will not charge

Latitude CPia. I left my laptop in suspend mode for several days on battery power. Naturally the battery evetually discharged, but now it will not charge at all. I have tried both bays, the machine will boot on AC power and shows the battery charging. However it still stays at 0%. Unpluging and reinserting the power supply causes the charge lamp to light but it goes out after a few minutes. No indicators on the battery light.

This machine is six months old and has had no battery issues before.

Here are a few things to try...
1) Tighten all the screws on the bottom (crucial!)
if no go...
2) Try the battery in the other bay (where the cdrom drive or floppy drive is)

If it only works in 1 bay...probably a bad charger on the motherboard. If it doesn't work in either bay...probable bad battery. Call Dell for a replacement. Try to swap with a known good battery.

Thanks,

I will try the screws.

I have already tried both bays, no luck.

Seems strange for the battery to suddenly die! I'll see if I can beg, borrow or steal another battery to test.

Dell has a fix on their support site for batteries that don't charge. It's a small program that you have to run overnight that re-initializes the battery so it will charge again. Though it says its for a Inspiron, it works for the Latitudes as well. I know...I've used it...
