To try the internal webcam, you'll need to detach the external webcam
Windows 7/8 is supposed to provide the webcam drivers for most Dell computers. If you system needs webcam drivers, go to Drivers & Downloads enter your service tag, then select your operating system. If your system needs webcam drivers, they'll be listed under Input.
i have done that many times with the service tag, it only shows drivers for vista, now i have Windows7, downloaded them all exactly as you described, few of them i have tried before that but still no changes
i had tried the Dell Webcam Central but it didnt worked, will try again.
Did you recently install/reinstall the operating system? If yes, did you install the Dell System Software(if applicable) and the chipset drivers first? If not, the rest of the drivers will fail to install. How to Download and Install Drivers in the Correct

toskata,
The system uses your internal microphone.
If you need assistance with the microphone, I suggest you post in the Laptop Audio Forum and the people there will be able to assist you.

toskata,
These are Vista 64-bit drivers, so they'll need installed in the Vista SP2 Compatibility mode
Download and install in this exact order.
Dell Notebook System Software, v.5.2.3, A03
Ricoh Card Reader R5C833, v.3.54.05, A01
Broadcom BCM5784M LAN, v.11.9.1.1, A00
Then install Dell Wireless WLAN 1397/1510 Half MiniCard Driver
Download Dell QuickSet, v.9.0.12, A00
Places to look to see if your Connection is enabled
Start, control panel, device manager. Click on Network and then right click on your network adapter, left click properties, power management. Uncheck the box, allow computer to turn off this device to save power.
Click on Advanced. Look for Antenna Diversity. Chane Antenna Diversity from Auto to Aux.
Go to the power options, and changed the Wireless Adapter Setting, from Maximum Power Setting to Maximum Performance.

toskata,
Can you connect if the computer is next to the wireless router?
Did you try the system at a WiFi location?
Is your system under warranty? If yes, Contact Dell Technical Support
