BIOS Battery

1.  Where is the BIOS battery located in the Inspiron 8600?
2.  Where can I purchase one?

Thanks for any help provided.

Hi,

It could be one of two places. Most are behind a door you can access when you take the battery out, in the " cost reduced " version it is soldered to the MBD. The CR does not have serial or parallel ports. It may be worth trying Parts-People or Dell.

To replace it, if you have the original style 8600, HERE are the instructions.  If you have an I8600c like I do, referred to as the cost reduced version in the above post, the cover for the battery will be in the same place but when you remove the cover, it is just empty.

I found this on EBAY

I actually just found out that I need to replace the CMOS battery.  Is this this same as your link?  When I open the latch, there was not nothing inside like the instructions said.  Is the reserve battery the same as the CMOS battery?

Thanks,

Hi,

If the battery isnt there, you would have the CR model, without the ports I mentioned. To replace it you will need to find an equivalent battery, dismantle the machine and solder the new one in. If you are not good at soldering, it may be a better option to pay someone to do it. If you try and it goes bad, you will need another motherboard.
