Are you saying none of the BIOS updates A09 - A15 will not work?

Mine will not update to V08 and  you can't update to anything above A08 because they need all need A08 to update.  If you try to just jump past like from A07 to A09 the screen will tell you to install A08 first. It has to be done in steps because one builds onto the other and fixes problems.

Hi REDGTX,

Please note that if the A07 or before A07 BIOS is currently installed on your system
you must first update to A08 BIOS and then flash to the latest A-rev BIOS.
A08 BIOS link: http://dell.to/14nxmyT

Please note that if the A09 or before A09 BIOS is currently installed on your system
you must first update to A10 BIOS and then flash to the latest A-rev BIOS.

After the A10 BIOS update on the system please update to Version A15

Please let us know if this helps.

I know that and my problem is as posted A08 will NOT flash the bios. I am stuck at A07.  I have tried several ways to flash the bios including through a boot CD and memory stick. I have even tried re-flashing A07 first. All the patches have been installed. I tried to go through safe mode too but all I get is a message telling me to attach the battery and power cord first even though they are already connected. Like I stated in my opening post this is a problem with many Dell laptops and Dell is not addressing the problem. On one site I read that it mostly on 64 bit systems. One person said he had to install a second hard drive with Windows XP  32 bit in order to get his to flash.

That is ONLY when I boot in safe mode.  It tells me to attach the battery and power cord even though it is attached. I have tried removing the power cord and reattaching it but it doesn't see it even though the computer is on.

If the system doesn't detect the AC adapter, the BIOS won't flash.  Is that the case with your system?

Hi REDGTX,

We will have to check the status of the adapter in BIOS; if the adapter is not detected properly the system will continue to receive power but will not charge the battery. Please follow the steps mentioned below to check if the adapter is detected properly.

  1. Start the computer by pressing the power button
  2.  Press the F2 key 2-3 times
  3.  you will now be on the BIOS screen
  4.  Under the Main Tab look for the option that says AC Adapter Type
  5.  If the Adapter Type says Unknown or None with the adapter plugged in.
  6.  Reconnect the adapter to the machine and if the status now shows as Unknown then the AC Adapter needs to be replaced.

My problem is the Bios won't update from V07 to V08  NOT my charging system. The only time the computer says to attach the battery and charger in when I try updating the Bios in safe mode. My MAIN concern is updating the Bios.

Hi REDGTX,

To update the BIOS on the system the AC adapter should be connected to the system and should be recognized. Please perform the steps given to determine it.

OK I GIVE UP !!!!!  Why are you even worried about the charging system? My problem is "THE BIOS WILL NOT UP-DATE"  there is NO PROBLEM with the battery or the AC charging system!  When I try to up-date the Bios it unpacks and THAT'S ALL. It never up-date the bios and I am stuck at V07. There are thousands of  articles on the web talking about this problem and Dells LACK of response to address the problem.  The Bios will not up-date when using a 64 bit OS and that's the problem.

Hi REDGTX,

The BIOS will not get updated on the system if the AC adapter is not charging the system and that may be the reason for BIOS not updating on your system.

The AC system is charging.  I don't have any problem with it. The battery is new and it has no problems either. The problem is the bios won't flash using a 64 bit OS. So PLEASE STOP blaming the AC charging system and help with the Bios problem.

Hi Ibbis

This is a Dell problem with many different models. When I searched the web there were a few hundred thousand posts about this problem. Dell is NOT addressing the issue UNLESS you want to pay for it (I read that on one of the posts)  The person said he had to send his laptop to dell and paid $120  plus shipping both ways for them to update his Bios but never told him how they did it. Another post said he had to install Windows XP pro 32 bit  on a second hard drive to get his to update. If I find the problem and how to fix it I will post it for you.

REDGTX I am having the same experience with Dell Support you are having.  The have a MAJOR issue and are doing nothing about it.  I was told today I needed to replace my Motherboard.  They have no clue what they are doing.  This will make me really think long and hard about buying anything else with Dell on it.
