BIOS Login

Hi all! I purchased a Latitude from my company when they went out of business a while back. I t had an extended warranty etc on it. 5 mos after the warranty expired, guess what? Yup, twitch and then the dreaded BIOS password screen.

Does Dell keep the records of previous Service Contracts? Or am I going to have to find some other way to prove ownership when I call for the Password?

Thanks in advance!

Yes you will need to prove ownership. If the company didn't transfer the ownership to you when you purchased it from them then you will need someone that can either make the call for you or give you all the info.

Sometimes when that screen pops up out of nowhere and you have not set a password, disconnecting the CMOS battery plug will clear the problem. This is not a violation of Dell's policy if you bought the laptop without one set and it just comes out of the blue; in fact this tactic will do no good to clear a password set by a previous owner and still present on the password chip. The CMOS battery plug is a small 2-wire white plug between the keyboard and the Touchpad connectors under the keyboard.
