black when loading

Question

I have a inspiron 1525 with windows vista. When I turn it on the Dell logo comes on and after it tries to load a screen says windows recovery error. If I try to load, the screen turns black with the cursor working. Dell diagnostics found no problem.. trying to load in safe mode, windows drivers are loading and then it stops and says Please Wait. Nothing happens. Any help will be appreciated.

I had come to the conclusion that I would have to reinstall the operating system, but I was hoping for an easier solution. I reinstalled the operating system and everything works fine. Thank you so much for your help.

Hi Ellie,Good work on troubleshooting. It could be no Boot issue. I would suggest that you start the computer to ‘Last Known Good Configuration’and check if the computer goes to the desktop in the operating system. Please follow the steps mentioned below to initiate ‘Last Known Good Configuration’. Remove all floppy disks, CDs, and DVDs from your computer, and then start your computer by pressing the power button. Immediately at the Dell logo screen, start tapping the key. On the Advanced Boot Options screen, use the arrow keys to highlight Last Known Good Configuration (advanced), and then press Enter. Check if the computer starts up normally.

You may have to reinstall the operating system on the computer. Please refer to the link below for reinstalling Windows Vista operating system.
