Does the 600m with bluetooth support work with the MS bluetooth mouse?
Yes.....but like the rest of the new internal BT field from DELL....you have to install and run the latest driver package............A01 1.4.1.4 as of 5 May 2003..........you can find this on DELL's s/w update pages.....
I haven't used the MS BT mouse with a 600m, but I have used it without issues on a M60 and a D400 with the Dell internal BT modules. It will work with your 600m, but you may not have the full functionality of reprogramming the mouse's buttons. All the buttons work as their defaults, but you cannot change them. This is a driver issue conflict issue with the touchpad (I believe) and, perhaps, the reason that it is listed as unsupported.
I'm using the MS BT mouse with my 600m. Don't install the software for the mouse. CECarl is right about not being able reprogram the mouse's buttons. I haven't found a way to do so but the buttons do work as their default function.
I have the Logitech bluetooth mouse......it's very nice and all the buttons work. I didn't install the mouse software or plug in the included bluetooth dock.
When the light on the mouse starts blinking...indicating low battery I just pull the charger/basestation out of my drawer and plug it into an outlet, then set the mouse on it. No need to plug it into the computer. It usaually takes about 3 hours to charge the mouse and the light on the mouse starts blinking about 4 hours before mouse is completely dead.
Well, the manual says that it takes 3 charge cycles to get peak batterylife....I've only gone through one charge cycle so far. The batteries on the first charge lasted for about 6 days under heavy use. I'm a full time student working on a programming major. I'd estimate I used the mouse on average about 7 hours a day.
Here's how I reassign the buttons on my MS IntelliMouse Explorer for BlueTooth - works flawlessly -
1. Uninstall Alps touchpad drivers.
2. Uninstall Dell drivers for TM300.
3. Reboot, let SP2 detect, install & configure it's native drivers for the TM300.
4. Install the MS IntelliPoint 5.2 software, reboot.
5. Cancel out of the IntelliPoint Wizard when it prompts you to plug in the Microsoft BT transceiver.
6. turn the MS mouse on, make it discoverable, and it's installed in about 5 seconds.
7. Use the IntelliPoint software to reassign & customize the mouse to your heart's content.
The SP2 bluetooth drivers are very robust, and the IntelliPoint 5.2 software controls the Alps touchpad just fine (it sees it as an MS compatible PS/2 mouse); no problems with not using Dell's "SP2 compatible" unsigned TM300 drivers, A05 being their latest attempt.
I have been trying this procedure to get my MS IntelliMouse Explorer for BlueTooth to work with my 9200. The problem I am having is that after deleting the Dell bluetooth drivers and rebooting, XP SP2 does not install it's native drivers for the TM300. I keep getting the Dell drivers. Any suggestions on getting my system to recognize and use SP2s native TM300 drivers?
After the Dell drivers auto install, remove the Dell truemobile Bluetooth software from "Add/Remove Programs", then reinstall SP2, then finally reboot.
I'm going to try your above suggestion tonight. After I remove Dell's software, should I re-remove Dells BT drivers before I re-install SP2? Also, will installing SP2 over itself cause any problems? I won't be able to use windows auto updater to download SP2 because it's already on my system (http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/sp2/default.mspx), do you have a recommended site for downloading SP2?
Thanks again for your help. As a gamer, those extra buttons are critical!

I hope I'm wrong about this, but the Inspiron Bluetooth manual lists "Bluetooth Mouse" as an UNSUPPORTED profile.
Has anyone been able to run a bluetooth mouse off the Inspiron 600M?

That's good to know. In a few days I'll be literally taking apart my 600M in order to install the Bluetooth card. No more USB dongles!
But I probably will not get the current MS Bluetooth mouse. I'd like something a little bit smaller and more portable.
Maybe the Logitech BT mouse.

PureBlur,
How do you recharge the Logitech mouse if you're not using the base station?

no, don't install Dell's BlueTooth drivers after you uninstall & reboot.
The SP2 full download is available on Microsoft's site under Network Install of SP2, but you shouldn't need to reinstall SP2.
