It helps if you tell us what model you have. Try the FN key with the Up Arrow.

Assuming that you have a Dell Notebook computer since you are posting in the "Portable - General Hardware" forum, here is how to do it.
 
Use the Fn key that is located on the bottom left of your keyboard.  Hold it down while pressing the Up arrow or Down arrow key.
 
Up arrow will increase the brightness and Down arrow will decrease it.

Thanks.  I also want to know how to adjust the brightness on my desk top PC.  It is a Dimension 8300.

You do that using the buttons on your monitor, not your computer.  There you can set the color, brightness, contrast and a lot more.
 
I do not know which monitor you have so I can't tell you how to change it.  Look in the user's manual.  If you do not have one, they are online at Dell.
 
Click HERE to select your monitor if it is a Dell.
