Thank you very much!

So, even though that the one little piece I need can be put in itself, I would still have to ship my whole item in?

If the system is under warranty, call Dell and they will replace the palmrest assembly under warranty.

If your system is out of warranty, this is the part you will need to replace:

The palmrest-touchpad is a single part - subunits are not sold separately, so the whole assembly needs to be replaced (be glad it's not a VAIO, many of which are designed with the keyboard as integral to the touchpad, so the whole top of the system has to be replaced ..)

If you have onsite service, Dell will dispatch the technician with a part;  if you have return to depot, they'll send you a box that you use to return the system and you'll get it back 7-10 days later.
