C610 + Windows 2003

Currently my C610 is sporting Win2k, and I know it is "Designed for Windows XP", however, I am wondering if Windows Server 2003 would be a solution. I've searched the boards and most answers are around 2 years old at best and the advisor has no information for Win2k3 and the Latitude C610.

Could someone help?

The only way to tell is to load it. But why do you want to load a true server OS on a notebook. Are you just looking to upgrade the OS from W2K?? If so I would load XP Pro on it.

In any event W2K3 should work without problems but you might not fine all the right drivers for that OS as Dell does not support W2K3 on any notebooks. You could try XP drivers for some of the hardware like the touchpad, NIC and video.

Like someone else had mentioned on the forums, I received a licensed copy of Win2k3 Ent. for a college class. And yes, mostly to upgrade from Win2k Pro. I'd put XP Pro on it but that'd require $117 minimum for a new license ;p

I like Win2k3 as it comes stripped down out of the box. I'm using my C610 as a web development tool and with the added bonus from Win2k3 (resource usage, unused services turned off, etc) I think it'd be a nice benefit. However, as you said, no one seems to answer with a "I did it just fine".

I might just get WinXP Pro in the end..
