C640-Battery and power problem

I bought this computer not to long ago. The battery was dead when I bought it, but it still ran off the power suppy just fine. I bought a new battery and it worked for awhile and then one day, the battery started to drain the power supply. The light on the Power suppy would fade out and the battery wouldn't charge and the computer wouldn't run off the ac adapter while the battery is in the computer; but if I restart the computer without the battery and just the power supply it works........ I'm very confused, I've tried a new battery and a new power supply and the same thing occurs? Is this a mother board issue or how can I fix this?

Any imput would be great.

Thanks!!
