Cannot Boot from Cd

Ok i have windows 2000 on my computer and i would like install windows xp on a secondary partition on my hard drive which i made using parition magic. The only problem is that i cannot boot from my cd on my computer. The boot sequence is correct and the cd rom drive is first but it still does not work. Is there any other way to boot from cd or a way to install windows on a secondary partition as a secondary OS

What model? Some models have an option where you can disable the drive, and it will then not boot no matter where it is in the boot order. Also, check the drive for being completely seated and is it recognized on Page 1 of BIOS Setup?

Go into F2 BIOS Setup and go to page 2. See if the CD Drive has an arrowhead on the left end. If if does not, highlight it with the arrow keys and press the space bar to enable it. If that doesn't do it to make it bootable with your OS CD, try a CD Drive Cleaner disk. CD drives do go bellyup at times; I have a Samsung Combo in my junk box that is recognized by BIOS and windows, but that is all. No boot and no operation under windows

i actually used boot disks to make it work but when i install second os it does not install fully. It does not even ask for disc 2. Can i buy a new hard drive and install the new os on it and boot from that hard drive whenever i want to use the secondary os?

This linked product and others like it will allow you to install a 2nd Harddrive in the modular bay and boot from it by changing the boot order to put it head of the Internal HDD. The drive mounts in the module circuit board side up and unjumpered. The ones listed on Ebay for C-series Latitudes and Inspirons 3700,3800,4000,4100,4150,8000, 8100, and 8200 are all compatible with your machine
