Cannot Change Latitude LS BIOS Boot Order?
Hi,
Please help. My HardDrive has XP loaded onto it, but I cannot boot off the HardDrive by default. I have to choose F12 and then HDD to go into the OS. If I go into the BIOS and try change the boot order, it does not allow me. I cannot change the boot order in the BIOS, it says to contact my supervisor, but I am the supervisor. Please help.

Bob,
Thank you for the quick reply. My BIOS does not allow me to change the boot order. The options are there, but you cannot modify them.
I have never updated a BIOS, is it easy to do? After reading some messages here, I am reluctant to try it. I am experience with laptops and pc's, but have not updated a BIOS. On this Dell support website, I have read not to update the BIOS unless you have made major changes to the laptop. I have not made any changes.
Thank you,
Mark

Meadow44,
Thank you for using the Dell Community Forum.
Did you modify the boot sequence in the BIOS? The F12 feature was most likely added after this particular system was released. Make sure that you have the most current BIOS on this system.

Mark,
There are two methods of updating the system BIOS, one involves booting to a floppy disk and the other permits you to update the BIOS from your hard drive. The file is located in the Product Support | Downloads area (above).

Thank you Bob. I was able to flash the BIOS and that solved my problem. It was a SMOOTH process.
