Cannot detect video or network devices after reinstall
Hi My lad's XPS L702x died last week and I have had to reinstall Windows 7 Home Premium from the disks that Dell Supplied with the laptop. Usually, I would use the Drivers disk to install the network drivers and video drivers. However, when the drivers disk is loaded the program does not detect the video 'card' - a 1GB NVIDIA® GeForce® GT 550M Graphics Card nor the Ethernet or Wireless adaptors. I have downloaded the drivers for these from Dell's support site but the installation routines are unable to detect them during installation and say that compatible hardware cannot be found. I have downloaded the latest BIOS version and that installed without issue. However, when I enter the BIOS settings there is no option to enable/disable network connectivity or on-board video. I have done this many times where I work without any problems. I don't understand why it is not working. Can anyone help me install the drivers for the devices, please? Thanks!

There is an order of driver installation that must be followed. Install Windows, followed by any service packs (SP1 for Windows 7) if the SP isn't already on the install DVD.
Install the chipset driver and reboot.
For video, the Intel video driver MUST BE installed first. Once that's done, then install the nVidia driver. The video switching is entirely software controlled - there is no BIOS control for the video subsystem in this model.
