Cannot install USB Midi Interface.. please help!

Question

Hi; I've been having a wierd problem trying to install drivers for my M-Audio Midisport 4x4 USB midi interface. I've followed the instructions: - The USB cable was disconnected - The latest drivers were installed - The USB cable was connected and the Hardware Update Wizard instantly recognized the interface - it attempts to install the drivers (which were installed in the C:\documents and settings\username\Local Settings\Temp directory) - The copy process seems to be completed successfully - Then, I get the 'Cannot Install This Hardware' message, stating the system cannot find the file specified!! I've verified that the files indeed do exist in the windows\system32 and the windows\system32\drivers directory. Yet, the harware wizard is constanly complaining that it cannot find the file specified!!! What is going on, and how can I fix this? I am stumped. I'd like to avoid reinstalling XP by all means, so I am desperate for other solutions. In the meantime, I have emailed the M-Audio tech support, but it seems the problem is XP related and not really driver related. Your assistance is greatly appreciated. Thanks; John
