Cannot update bios Dell Latitude E6230

Question

Hello Guys, I have tried to update bios for the Dell E6230, currently it's A06 and i want to update to the latest available one that is A15. I managed to update both via WIndows and USB DOS, i execute the E6230A15.exe, it says 'preparing update' then reboot but it booted to WIndows rather than update the bios which i see on the Internet. i tried to update A09 but still same issue. The installer launches correctly and displays the current version, the update versions and reboots the system afterwards. Bit the BIOS version remains A06. - BIOS was reset to default setting: no luck - update to A08/09 instead of directly to A15: No luck - Install both via Windows and USB key has same behaviors I have no idea where to start troubleshooting. Any hints? Thank you very much. System Spec: OS: Windows 10 x64 Anyone can help me? Currently my laptop got some issues, something it does automatically sleep, sometimes it booted up with the Ethernet disabled thank you

Hi

Are you perhaps using a docking station? I had the exact problem you are describing when trying to update the BIOS while the laptop was on the docking station. Once removed and on AC power, the update proceeded without issues.

Interestingly I also tried to update from A06 and experienced the issue, but mine seems to have been related to the docking station. Perhaps you can try downgrading first, then try upgrading again.

Hi, Downgrade seems too dangerous and i would not take the risks.

Did you post this in Spiceworks as well as this is a similar post that I've seen there and replied to.

thanks for your response.

No, i will describe again: i executed the .exe file in both Windows as administator or even run in DOS mode, it executed normally then reboot but nothing happened. It just booted again to Windows.

hence the bios version still in A06, both in msinfo32 and Bios setting.
