Get into safe mode, I believe you can change or disable passwords from there.

Regarding the taskbar (Start Menu) at the bottom of your desktop, does it reappear if you float the mouse pointer over it for a few seconds? If so, let it reappear then right click on it and then click on properties. Then unselect the auto-hide feature if it is selected. If it is not selected, select it, then click OK until you get back to just your desktop, then go back in and deselect it. That might take care of that problem.

Who is set up as the administrator? Use that account (hopefully it isn't password protected) and go into control panel. Select user accounts, then select change accounts. Pick the one you want to change and go to it - make any changes such as password, etc. This is all for Home edition, not sure if Prof is different or not. As was mentioned before, you might need to use safe-mode to access a desktop to make changes - depends.

Also, in the future, have anyone that wants to password protect their account make a password recovery disk if you have a floppy drive, try it with a jump drive too - not sure if that would work or not but the disk would sure be helpful for you now if you had it. That function is available in the user accounts area as well.
