Computer shuts down when using some audio features - Inspiron 1100

As the title states, my Inspiron 1100 shuts down when using some audio features. When trying to import music into Itunes or burn cd's or watch streaming video or listen to streaming audio the computer just shuts down. I can listen to audio already stored on the computer without any problem though. Any ideas of what the culprit could be?

Thanks

Has your computer been running abnormally hot these days. Normally shut downs happen due to:

1) Viruses :  U can do an online virus scan to verify if you have one.

2) Heat issues: Try to clear out the air vents and the fan vent by using compressed can of air and vacuum cleaners. Run diagnostics on the Fan

3) Bad motherboard, hard drive : Run diagnostics on the motherboard and hard drive.

The system shutting down just while using audio features is very rare, use your system for an extended time continously on other applications and see if it is still shutting down!

All the best!

Thanks for the response.  The computer has not been running any hotter than it ever has.  The air vents are clean.  I run the computer everyday for nearly 9 hours with multiplt programs open and never has it shut down.  Only when trying to use certain audio functions as mentioned in my first post does it shut down.  I have downloaded and installed the audio driver again and no changes.  I am running a virus scan to see if something could infectting the system.  Thanks again for you suggestions.
