CPU compatibility?
Have a Dell XPS l702x 3D and i was wondering if i could run a "i7-3840QM" my laptop currently has an "i7-2630QM. If not what CPU are compatible with my laptop when buying it i had options for the CPU but i chose the default.

The 3840QM should work - but at $568 list price per unit, won't be an inexpensive upgrade.

Dell does not recommend or offer processor upgrade but it is as your discretion in case you really wish to go ahead with it. Warranty per say, issues arising due to the upgrade will not be covered under warranty; however we will continue providing support for other issues and parts.

Processor upgrade can cause various issues. If it is not seated properly it can lead to motherboard failure, it can cause overheating issue if thermal paste is not applied properly or the heatsink and fan are not seated properly. It might require other parts upgrade like power supply and heatsink assembly. It can cause complete system crash. As I mentioned in the previous post, issues arising due to the upgrade will not be covered under warranty.

The unit you've asked about uses the same amount of power, so heat shouldn't be an issue. That said, you won't see your $500+ worth of speed boost from it. Very rarely is there enough difference in speed between CPUs a given system will take to justify the price. When you buy the system, the $50-100 for an upgraded CPU makes sense sometimes -- afterward, not so much, because of the cost.
Beware any suspiciously low cost CPUs - the market is rife with remarked processors, and unscrupulous sellers - and note that Intel does not warrant "tray" or OEM CPUs to the end user - the only warranty you get is from your reseller, so be sure that business or person is reputable. If they disappear after the sale, so does your CPU warranty (and upgrading the CPU on an in-warranty Dell will void the warranty on the system).

You cannot upgrade the heatsink - the power adapter is external; just buy a higher-wattage unit if your current one is less than 130-150W.

On the power adapter is says
OUTPUT: 19.5V 7.7A
Does not show Wattage any were on it.
How can i find out for sure how much wattage it is?

The wattage of ac adapter depends upon the type of graphics card; your system is shipped with. Dell™ XPS™ L702X is shipped with 130-Watt (integrated graphics) or 150-Watt (discrete graphics) AC adapters.

Was your upgrade successful? I also want to upgrade my l702x's cpu to 3840qm.
So I'm wondering what the result of your cpu upgrade. Does 3840qm work well
on your laptop?

After I replaced the CPU I got blue screens and had to reinstall windows which fixed it.. Other than that I have not had any other problems with it but the performance was not dramatic. I would recommend this upgrade only if the processor cost under 200$ any more that that it not worth it. If you haven't already upgrade to an SSD there is a much greater increase in performance after that.
