Creating Windows 7 Boot Disc
I received my Studio 17 1747 today. I have an 80 gig SSD that I was planning on making the boot drive on day 1, and moving my stock500 gig HDD to bay 2. Using Dell Datasafe to create the bootable image does not work, it recognizes me trying to restore a 500 gig image to an 80 gig drive. How do I create a windows 7 boot disc to simply install windows 7 from scratch on my new SSD?

The recovery disk is for restoring windows to your original drive using the hidden image file on the hard drive. You need to contact Dell Support and get a real operating system disk to install win 7 on a new drive. You will lose some factory installed programs that cannot be recreated and you might be charged a fee for the disk..
A word of advice--you should not make any drastic changes to a new computer until you know it's running perfectly. Give yourself some time to check out the computer. You have about 21 days to return a computer for replacement if you have an OEM hardware failure.
