It's probably not a virus. It is more likely to be your daughter accidentally brushing or touching the touch pad while she is typing. She can adjust the sensitivity of the touch pad so accidental touches don't trigger cursor moves.

Thanks for the reply. I thought of that. I didn't adjust the sensitivity of the touch pad but I did type on her laptop being conscious of staying away from the touch pad.  I noticed it usually does it when the shift key, space bar, or enter keys are hit.  I am a look at the keyboard typer so I when I would look up to see what I typed, the sentences I typed looked all scrambled up.  My wife and I both have 1525's as well and don't experience this, so I had my daughter type on ours too.  She had no issues either...it is on her machine only.

In that case then, I'd try reinstalling the touch pad driver. If that doesn't work, try another external USB keyboard and see what happens. If the external keyboard performs as expected, then it's quite likely a problem with the built-in keyboard.

If you are still within warranty, that can be replaced. If out of warranty, a keyboard is not very expensive.

Ah, I never thought of that... I'll have to try that after I get home form work tonight.  I'll let you know how that turns out.  Thanks!

I've had a 1525 for almost a year and I have the exact same problem. Thought I was causing it but I've got another Inspiron at work and this problem doesn't occur with my XPS.

It's VERY annoying. My wife needs a laptop for her schoolwork and unless I get this problem resolved I won't be buying another Dell.

I've been doing some digging online and this seems to be a pretty common problem with Dell laptop owners. Only thing I can't find is Dell providing a fix for it. :emotion-45:

Same problem with mine.  Really sucks when you are composing an important email to a colleague, and it causes the email to be deleted, or even worse, sent midsentence.

This causes way too much frustration, inconvenience, and downright anger for them to ignore.  I have a PhD and it looks like I can't write an email when the cursor decides to click 'send'.  Next computer I buy,  will not make me look like an idiot.

Also I found this little trick.  Open notepad and start hitting enter, backspace and spacebar over and over in a  pattern and everything

comes back online...if not for a while.  Bizzare.

My problem of the cursor randomly clicking has been solved.  It took me 3 times, but I reinstalled the drivers, and the 3rd time was a charm.
