I'm running a D531 and attempting to use VirtualPC (under Vista) with HW virtualization enabled...  Everything will install just fine and be good - until I attempt to boot a guest OS instance...

Poof.  Instantaneous reboot.  No warning, just a POST screen and eventually a "the machine previously experienced an unplanned shutdown..."

Anyone else seen this or tracked down a workaround?

BIOS:  A08...

It'd be great if someone from the Dell side could provide more progress info... There's also a few (if not many) that wouldn't mind helping test the fix for ya.... :-)

*BUMP*

Come on Dell...pull your finger out...there are plenty of people experiencing problems with the virtualisation hardware support...and this issue is going to become quite widespread when Win7 gets its official release at the end of the month

There are quite of a few of us willing to do any testing if you require testers

I have exactly the same problem on an Inspiron 1526 (AMD Turion 64 X2 TL-60 2.00 GHz).  I'm running the latest BIOS (A15).

Same processor, same problem, looks like the same bug

Just noticed you've actually posted on TechNet too...would certainly recommend getting in touch with Dell though

Please see the TechNet link http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/w7itprovirt/thread/85d3ca80-7729-43b5-82f1-c29f6f05f0a1 - I would recommend contacting Dell via the support reference number I raised and let them know a different model is also affected

If I don't hear anything by Wednesady I'll be calling the account manager I bought my laptop through and see what can be escalated...as you can see I've had no response from Dell via the forum

Thanks for getting in touch!
