Docked my D600. Resolution changed to 640 X 800. Have performed all resoutions offered by Microsoft, article 305174.
Unable to modify screen resolution.
Appears to be a known problem.
I have not been successful in changing the display. Frustrated.

I recently got a Latitude D600. I downloaded and installed the Radeon 9000 drivers listed on Dell's site. However, I can't get my screen resolution to be greater than 1024x768. When I got to the Video Settings, in the "Display" dropdown two monitors are listed. When I select and activate the second monitor (without a second monitor actually being plugged in) I can set it to be greater than 1024x768. However the primary screen will will not.

Any help in resolving this problem is greatly appreicated

Could you find a solution to this problem? I have had a d600 provided by my company for months and did not have any problem. I recently received a new one because the other had a network card which failed, and started having problems with resolution. At first, I had no option to set 1400x1050, then I noticed that if I:

1) press Fn/F8
2) open the display settings
3) move the switch for resolution of the SECOND monitor over 1400x1050 (even if no secondary monitor is connected!)

the options for the FIRST display suddenly show all the other option (i.e. 1400x1050 too), and I can set the right resolution. However, the setting is lost every time I turn the computer on: this of course bothers me a lot (mostly because of desktop icons positions jeopardized).

Has anyone found any solution? I tried going on the dell support site in order to see if an updated video driver was available, but my service tag does not seem to be recognized!

Hi Gary,

The same problem I met as you!

Now the problem is, I can not set the display adapter's resolution to 1280*1024 or higher, this D600 laptop display attribute could be set to 640*480, 800*600 and 1024*768 only. And the laptops I had used previously, such as IBM, Toshiba, it's display resolution can be set to 1280*1024 or more easily.

I had tried to change the vga drivers, and looking for Moniter driver, but not.

Regards

Hi Gary,

I experienced exactly the same as you, except that My D600 worked at 1400 by 1050 when delivered, but after a physical screen change on day 2 by a Dell repair technician (becasue of a screen fault) the resolution wouldn't go above 1024 by 768.

After messing about with drivers etc. with no luck, I looked at the BIOS settings.  My SXGA screen had been replaced by the tchnician with a XGA screen.  There are two issues here:

1.  The D600 comes with either XGA or SXGA - you pay for the higher resolution.  It sounds like you only have a XGA screen which is phisically not able to go above 1024 by 768.  Look in the BOIS settings to see what your machine has.

2.  Despite the box contining my new screen beeing laballed SXGA, I think that the screen fitted was actually only a XGA (as reported in the BIOS settings).  I am currently in discussion with the local Dell service agent.  If you bought a SXGA screen but were given a XGA screen go and complain.

Gary,

I replaced a display driver download from internet, and now the resolution can set to 1280*1024 and more than this. The problem we met caused by the display driver that provided by DELL, not other reasons.
