Dead, dead L507x
A few days ago, while I was using my Inspiron XPS L507x it went dark without warning. My first thought was that I had accidentally unplugged it and after the battery ran down the laptop shut down. After some examination I discovered the battery was fully charged because it showed five LED lights when the test button was pressed.
The computer does not show one spark of life, so diagnostics are not possible. It appears something has gone profoundly wrong. The computer is about 23 months old and out of the manufacturer's warranty, but my credit card covers it for an extra year.
What is the process for repairing it? I'm assuming it's something like a bad motherboard. I'm very disgusted with it, as it's the first laptop that has died on me. I still have the previous Dell which is at least five or six years older and still working. The Inspiron could be the last Dell I ever own.

Hi Gill Bates,
As per your post, I understand that the system is not powering on, this may be an issue with the ac adapter or motherboard. Please follow the steps to check whether the ac adapter is working
If the ac adapter is good, remove the battery and check if the computer power’s on only with ac adapter connected. Also, try with the known good adapter.
After performing the above steps, if there is still no power on the system then the motherboard may be faulty. Since you have mentioned that system warranty is expired, the credit card company has given a one year warranty. I would suggest you to contact your credit card company so that they can direct you in the right direction.

I tried that and of course it did no good. That bit of advice seems to be the standard bit boilerplate for many problems.

Hi Gill Bates,
Since you have mentioned that the credit card company has offered an extended warranty, this is provided by a third party vendor.
Please private message the documentation for the extended warranty which you have received while purchasing the computer. I will be able to provide further course of action.
Also, let me know from where have you purchased the computer?
In case you have purchased the system from Dell please provide the order number.
I have added you as a friend. Please accept my friend request by clicking on my name highlighted in blue and then click on “Friends” tab at the top and then click on “Request to Review” and finally click on “Accept” button.
I am sending you a private message as well. Click on “Inbox” to respond to the message and provide system’s Service Tag so I may check the region/country from where the system was purchased and assist you accordingly. You could also click on Start Conversation to send a private message.
