decreasing memory

Question

Hi, I  have been having some issues since I upgraded my memory. from time to time I get a message just after booting: Decreasing memory press F2 or ....   I upgraded my memory from 512 to 768 . I thought that the memory was bad so I returned it and get another one , then after a week I got the same problem. so contacted the supplier Vikings and sent them the memory and they sent me a new one. I am still having some issue. I am starting to worry if the problem comes from my laptop. inspiron 8500 xp pro.   Anyone has any idea of what could be the problem ?   Thanks.

try sending the memory back & get some guaranteed sticks from http://www.crucial.com

let's just say the dells can be very picky on what memory is compatible with it.

You might also want to do a virus scan as decreased memory may also be the result of a virus. Greg

well i use a program called freeram xp. it places a icon on my toolbar telling me how much ram is free and whenever needed i can have it free up any avalble ram.  you can get it at download.com and its freeware so what the heck

Dont rule out a faulty ram slot on the MB either.
