Dell D620 Negative Screen Image ??
Hi There Forum People,
Recently bought myself an Inspiron 15r to replace my D620, that i have been using for years. Gave the D620 to my son to use, and within a few weeks he comes to me and says, My Laptop is broken.... hmmmmmm.
Anyhow, The screen has turned into a negative image. looked everywhere i could and someone told me it might be the inverter. So I ordered one of them and Changed it, but, still the same.
I also tried the Heat the Video Chip on the motherboard trick, that did nothing either.
Does anyone have any ideas as to what this might be ???
Thanks

Hi there.
The computer is working sort of on an external monitor, there are lines in the screen, the problem that usually can be solved by heating the Video chip, but the monitor itself is now dead. The motherboard is a replacement from ebay and is just 3 months old. I think I'll ask them to help me with another.
Thanks for your reply.

There can be a couple things happening here, but I definitely want to help you fix it.
One thing to check is if the colors are inverted on an external monitor. Have you had the chance to test hooking an external display up?
Typically, the inverter and back light wont be the issue. if the display shows up fine with either connecting to an external monitor, or taking a screenshot and emailing it another computer, then the gpu and mobo are usually fine. It may be the screen connector coming loose or needing reset, and it can be bad drivers. However, the more likely scenario is simply a bad screen.
If you cannot get it fixed by other means, and dont want to pay for a replacement (either buying the screen from somewhere and replacing it yourself, or sending it in) then you can use powerstrip. http://entechtaiwan.com/util/ps.shtm
its not perfect, but it can help you invert the colors again. Essentially, inverting the inverted screen lol. It may not look pretty or 100% correct, or have all normal functions, but it works and does help many people. The program had a cost, but also a trial period to test it out.

I havent looked at the heating of the gpu issue, but I assume its along the same lines as the towel trick for the xbox 360 RROD. Essentially liquefying the solder and then allow it to reseal in order to correct cracks or other breaks in it.
However, it definitely sounds as if the MOBO or the GPU are bad and need replacing. When the external monitor has issues as well, then it is typically not anything with the screen or connectors.
The only thing to test would be a screen shot on the broken monitor and email it and see if it shows up broken or not.
