Dell Display 1908FPb Driver update
I received a notice from Dell support about a new video driver update for my Dell laptop. The instructions reference a setup.exe file which does not exist in the installation package after the files are unzipped. This is a fairly new update. Has anyone else encountered the same issue?
In step 7) below, no setup.exe exists in the folder, only files 1908fp.cat, 1908FP.icm and 1908FP.inf are extracted.
Hard Drive Installation (via WinZip) with Setup.exe File for DELL_1908FPB---19-INCH-FLAT-_A00-00_R211147.EXE
Download
1.Click Download Now, to download the file.
2.When the File Download window appears, click Save (Windows XP
users will click Save) this program to disk and click OK. The Save In:
window appears.
3.From the Save In: field, click the down arrow then click to
select Desktop and click Save. The file will download to your desktop.
4.If the Download Complete window appears, click Close. The file
icon appears on your desktop.
Install
1.Double-click the new icon on the desktop labeled DELL_1908FPB---19-INCH-FLAT-_A00-00_R211147.EXE.
2.The Self-Extracting window appears and prompts you to extract or
unzip to C:\DELL\DRIVERS\R211147. Write down this path so the executable (I.e.
Setup.exe) file can be found later.
3.The Self-Extractor window appears.
4.Click OK.
5.After completing the file extraction, if the Self-Extractor
window is still open, close it.
6.Click the Start button and then click Run.
7.Type C:\DELL\DRIVERS\R211147 in the Open textbox and then click OK. <<=No setup.exe file exists
8.Follow the on-screen installation instructions.

Hi!
I know it has been awhile, but I'm wondering if you got past this issue, as I'm having the same (or similar) issue.
I'm using Windows 7 Ultimate x64 SP 1 on a Dell Precision T7500 with an EVGA GTX 970 video card (DVI port and DVI cable). The monitor works, but Windows says it is a "generic PnP monitor" instead of a Dell 1908FP.
I went to the support page for the drivers and downloads for the Dell 1908FP monitor and found the most recent EXE file. After downloading it, I found three files and like you none were a READ ME file NOR a setup.exe.
The instructions on the download page say to go to the extracted directory / files and then follow the instructions. Ah, there aren't any to find and follow.
I tried doing a driver update, but it won't recognize files NOR will running the INF (Windows says its not a valid INF to run on its own).
Anyway, my point is I'm in the same boat as you and what I'm experiencing looks to be similar to you. Thus I'm wondering if you found an answer to your problem (and can share it).
Sincerely yours,
Bertram Moshier
